Study piece of work by Pietro da Cortona for a painting he did with this theme.
Roman Emperor Caesa, after defeating Ptolemy XII, fell in dearest with cute Cleopatra. He led her to the Egyptian throne while she was in dispute with her brother Ptolemy. Nosotros see her here ascending the steps to the throne, ushered at that place by Caesar. Looking through the windows we see the pyramids, and inside the room also as outside we see Roman soldiers carrying regular army signs.
A masterful etching!
The aquatint was published in "Disegni original d'eccellenti pittori essist. nell a R. Gall. di Firenze etc.". Florence, 1766-1774. This was a folio size gallery book with engravings of the most famous artists.
Condition: Only in margins some modest traces of age and use. Margins in a higher place and beneath image are narrow.

(1796 Edinburgh - London 1864)
Roberts was one of the most noted and admired architectural and landscape painters and lithographers of his time. Later travelling in many parts of Europe he made several journeys to the Near E and Egypt. He was most noted for the excellence of rendering the aboriginal ruins which he encountered on his travels. The following prints are from his work about Egypt, Nubia, The Most East and The Holy Land published in London 1842-49.
Folio size: ca 35 x 42.five cm (xiii.7 10 16.7 "). Individual plate sizes are given below.
Very fine and typical modern hand coloring. Except for some very minor fraying of outer margin edges, all prints are in very skilful condition unless otherwise noted. In the corners of images is the usual pinpoint marking. Some prints have very minimal spotting in margins. Each has a title in lower margin, distant from image, as shown beneath on the first print. In that location is a hand-lithographed title and signature past David Roberts in every plate. The date is almost ever behind the title. Some prints have the title printed below the prototype. On the backside of all prints is volume text, laid out for a page size book, only, similar almost always, cut down to somewhat larger than plate size.

Pope Innocente X gave lodge to build this prominent, distinctive fountain depicting iv male figures representing 4 of import rivers on 4 continents: Nile, Danube, Ganges and Rio de la Plata. Gian Lorenzo Bernini received the Papal society and created between 1648 to 1651 the famous fountain, which was placed in the center of Piazza Navona. In the fountain's center rises the Obelisk, which came originally from the Isis-Temple in Arab republic of egypt.
